Roles: Content Designer, Worldbuilder, Writer, Systems Designer, & Bug Fixer
In May of 2015, I joined the Lord of the Rings Online team at Turbine, Inc. as a Systems Design Intern. Shortly after, my interest in worldbuilding and content design caused the "Systems" part of my title to be dropped, as my time was being split much more evenly across all aspects of design.
I worked on the Osgilliath PvP update (16.2) and the major Update 17, which is centered around the addition of the massive city, Minas Tirith.
I worked on designing and implementing quest & deeds (LOTRO's name for achievements), worldbuilding, & many other minor design tasks.
My favorite task was designing and decorating The Merry Swan, an upscale tavern in the city of Minas Tirith. Owning the worldbuilding process for an entire interior was an excellent lesson in working around the limitations of an aging MMO engine, getting creative with a very limited asset budget, and realizing an original vision while maintaining the integrity of a beloved intellectual property.
I also got to write greetings and color text dialogue for the citizens of the city and direct the V.O. for my dialogue.
